The Crossed-Out Wheeled-Bin Symbol

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) always require separate collection and recycling, on account of all the nasty hazardous substances in them. It’s really important to make sure you’re disposing of electronic baby items properly so they don’t end up in landfill and end up harming the environment. All electrical equipment that can be recycled (or should be considered for repair/reuse) is marked with a little crossed-out wheelie bin symbol. Any products marked with this symbol means it shouldn’t be thrown away as unsorted waste. Instead, it had to be sent to a separate collection facility for recovery and recycling. If you spot the crossed-out wheelie bin symbol on any of your old electrical baby products, make sure you don’t throw it in the bin. All your local wildlife will thank you!

How we’re helping out

We’re all about reducing waste at LittleList. You might have already heard about our pre-loved feature. If you know anyone that also has a LittleList, you can offer up some of your used electrical baby items and give them a new home.If you can’t offer the electrical item up to a new home, we’ve got you covered. We’re members of the national distributor take-back scheme (DTS.) That means that we pay to support recycling centres run by local authorities.Once your LittleList box arrives at your door, you can take all your old electrical baby items to your local recycling centre, safe in the knowledge that you’ve done your bit for the environment.

What Is WEEE?

Recycling of WEEE (that’s with three E’s, not the stuff that you’ll find in your baby’s nappies,) is a specialist part of the waste and recycling industry. The Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations 2013 ("the Regulations") became law in the UK on the 1st of January 2014 and replaced the 2006 Regulations.WEEE aims to reduce the amount of Electrical and Electronic Equipment that’s thrown into landfills at the end of its life and encourages reuse and recycling.
